A Toast for Fathers

At Westland, we find ourselves thinking less about the surface symbols and more about the substance underneath. Yes, we are distillers. We are observers. And at the end of the day, we are a group of people working together to create something beautiful. Gearing ourselves up to continue exploring the future of whiskey.

This season, and in various moments throughout the year, we look back on the things that shaped us. It is those who came before that shaped the world which we walk upon now. Westland is directly inspired by the logging camps that first looked upon the Olympic Mountains in the Northwest. Those who came before have paved a path that we can set upon, as we pave for those in the future.

As we approach Father’s Day, we think about the humility involved. We think about the virtues that come from Fatherhood, like patience, steadiness. These are the qualities that make the discipline of distilling worthwhile. It’s a long, quiet labor. Making whiskey requires foresight. We have built our business on the belief that what we do today will matter years down the line.

The best fathers we know aren’t perfect. They’re around us every day. They may not be related by blood, and can be chosen family members or dear friends.
These special people in our lives are the ones who do not pretend to be perfect, but they are present. And presence, like place, matters. At Westland, we honor our whiskey-making process through our ingredients, the barley that thrives in the maritime climate, the water sources that rush around our state lines, the oak that holds the memory of years. We distill whiskey that tells the truth about the place that formulates it.

So this Father’s Day, we offer a simple, heartfelt toast:

To the ones who’ve taught us how to work and how to rest.
How to build something with care and then let it stand on its own.
To those who’ve told us when to keep going and when to call it a night.
To those who’ve held us steady without needing to be thanked.
