Garryana

Westland Garryana 11th Edition, Aged 10 Years, cask strength
11th EditionLimited annual release
Aged 10 YearsCask strength, 56.8% ABV

Release Day is Saturday, November 7. Come taste it first at the distillery in Seattle.

Our second age‑stated whiskey

Garryana, aged ten years and bottled at cask strength.

Our exploration of Garryana began in November 2011, with a single cask of our native oak. That first cask showed us what Quercus garryana could do: not only an incredible flavor profile, but a way to taste the Pacific Northwest itself.

The 11th Edition reflects both continuity and curiosity. It is the first whiskey in the series to use beer cask finishes, layering the nose with herbs and fruit before descending into the spice-driven depths that Garryana has long made its own.

How the 11th Edition was made

Ten years from grain to glass, with a beer cask finish that is new to the series.
  1. Grain

Westland Signature Five Malt, with Washington pale malts: Alba, Copeland, Maris Otter and Golden Promise.

  2. Garry oak

Matured first in first- and second-fill casks coopered from Quercus garryana, the oak that grows in our own region.

  3. The finish

First-fill Cask Exchange beer casks that once held porter, stout, barleywine and triple-style ales, alongside first-fill cognac casks.

  4. Cask strength

Bottled at 56.8% ABV after ten years. Non-chill filtered, with no coloring added.

Whiskey has traditionally been aged in just a few species of oak, and none of them grow in the Pacific Northwest. Garry oak does. It is new to the world of whiskey, and we have spent more than a decade learning what this wild, slow-growing tree brings to single malt.

Garry oaks grow wild, twisted and slow. Unlike oak from managed forests, they were never groomed for cooperage.

The wood is brittle and prone to checking, so each tree yields relatively few usable staves. The effort is worth it.

We source Garry oak ethically and work to restore its habitat. Not for a harvest we will see in our lifetimes, but to help this keystone species, and the ecosystem around it, thrive for the next ones.
