Spiced Old Fashioned | Westland Whiskey

Where there’s whiskey, there is also an Old Fashioned. The Old Fashioned cocktail is the quintessential whiskey drink, and often the introduction to the depths that whiskey can offer as a spirit. We wanted to share a recipe for you to try at home this holiday season, cue the Flagship Spiced Old Fashioned.

While we strongly believe the Old Fashioned cocktail is meant for easy sipping all days of the year, this Spiced Old Fashioned was created with the holiday spirit in mind. A base of rich spiced syrup and a star anise garnish pair perfectly with the fruit and chocolate notes found in Westland Flagship.

Spiced Old Fashioned
2 ounces Westland Flagship
¼ ounce rich demerara syrup infused with pie spice*
2 dashes cherry bitters
1 dash orange bitters
Star Anise garnish

Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass and top with ice. Stir to combine and dilute, at least 30 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass with one large ice cube. Garnish with the star anise and enjoy.

*pie spice—feel free to use store bought pumpkin pie spice or your favorite Baharat mix to encapsulate some savory warming undertones. Our recommended spices are clove, cinnamon, allspice, ginger, cardamom, and nutmeg. Feel free to get creative with this!

Once you have selected your spice mix, combine with 2:1 demerara sugar to water and heat on the stovetop to dissolve. Strain into your final container and chill completely before using.
